KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Energy and Water have a plan to ban drilling of arbitrary wells and set a fee for excess water consumption in the capital Kabul.

Akhtar Mohammad Nusrat, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy and Water, told Salam Watandar that this plan will be implemented after the approval of the caretaker government’s cabinet.

“The Ministry of Energy and Water has sent a plan for underground water management to the Prime Minister’s Office, after its approval, no one in a residential house is allowed to arbitrarily dig for drinking water wells, and meters will be installed for drinking water wells.”

He said that if the water is used beyond a set limit, a tax will be imposed.

Ezzatullah, a resident of Kabul, told Salam Watandar that many citizens suffer from poverty and do not have the ability to hand over money to pay for drinking water wells. “Unemployment has increased and people are suffering from poverty and are not able to pay for drinking water.”

Faiz Mohammad, another resident of Kabul, said that this plan is not acceptable for people and people cannot pay for drinking water.

Meanwhile, Seyed Hosib Asghar, one of the energy and water affairs experts, said that one of the government’s duties is to provide water for the citizens, and the Islamic Emirate’s plan for water consumption in Kabul is not practical.

“The duty of the government is to provide water for the citizens of the country, and the government must provide water for the citizens, and this plan is not practical, and the people do not support it due to the spread of poverty.”

The Ministry of Energy and Water had previously said that in order to solve the water shortage crisis in the capital, it has two large projects of water distribution from the “Lelander Strait in Kabul and the transfer of water from the Panjshir River.
