MONITORING (SW) – Filippo Granadi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has said humanitarian programs to help millions of people, including women and girls in Afghanistan, need sustainable support.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has stated on its Twitter that Mr. Grandi has called for sustainable support for humanitarian programs to support Afghan refugees citizens in Iran and Pakistan.

Following the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan have increased.

According to international relief organizations, more than 95 % of Afghan citizens are now under the poverty line, and more than half the population need humanitarian aid to survive.

The increasing poverty and unemployment in the past year has led to a significant number of citizens to migrate to Iran and Pakistan.

Not long ago, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian had said that more than one million citizens of Afghanistan had emigrated to Iran after the Islamic Emirate came to power.
