Saleh demands the Islamic Emirate to hold referendum

MONITORING (SW) – Amrullah Saleh, the former first vice president, has said if the Islamic Emirate accepts holding of a referendum, he will accept its legitimacy and end the armed resistance.

The first vice president said in an interview that the West should help to establish a legitimate government in Afghanistan.

“We are ready to end the armed resistance, provided that a mechanism for a referendum is created. If the Islamic Emirate wins, we will certainly accept their legitimacy.”

He added, however, that he will not surrender to a system that has come to power through “conspiracy”.

Referring to the one-year anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Emirate government, the former first vice president said for the Islamic Emirate, the past year has not only been a year of failure, but it has shown their true face to the people of Afghanistan.

“People who brought disaster and famine to them and pushed women back.”

Mr. Saleh added: “We formed resistance against the Islamic Emirate, we did not surrender, we were not surrounded, we did not change our position, and we are still at war.”

The authorities of the Islamic Emirate have not yet reacted to Saleh’s words.

After the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, Saleh went to Panjshir and together with Ahmad Massoud, created the resistance front against the Islamic Emirate. A month later, after the fall of Panjshir, he reportedly went to Tajikistan.
