Karzai blames Pakistan for girls school closure

KABUL (SW) – Former predident, Hamid Karzai, has said that the closure of schools for girls above the sixth grade in Afghanistan are not based on Islamic rules, but ordered by Pakistan.

Karzai said in an interview with the German “Der Spiegel” magazine that Pakistan wants Afghanistan to be a weak and defenseless country.

The former president also emphasized in this interview that the exclusion of girls from education means the isolation of Afghanistan and this country will not be able to stand on its own feet. According to him, “without educated women, we are dead.”

With the reign of Islamic Emirate, which has completed almost a year, the schools of girls above the sixth grade have been closed all over the country, which has caused many reactions at home and abroad.

Although the officials have repeatedly said that they will reopen girls’ schools above the 6th grade, they have not fulfilled this promise yet.

The interim government of the Islamic Emirate has not yet officially said anything about these statements of the former president Hamid Karzai.
