KABUL (SW) – The suspected cases of cholera disease have tripled at Kabul’s Infectious Disease Hospital, officials confirmed.
Authorities of the Kabul Infectious Disease Hospital told Salaam Watandar that the number of suspected cholera cases in this hospital has tripled compared to last month.
Faridullah Omari, a specialist trainer at the hospital in Kabul, said that in the last 24 hours, 110 suspected cholera patients have visited this hospital. While last month this figure was only around 30 persons in 24 hours. He added that out of 110 suspected cholera patients, two tested positive.
Officials at the Kabul Infectious Disease Hospital attribute the increase in this type of disease to the increase in heat, not observing personal hygiene and lack of access to clean water.
Meanwhile, a number of patients who have visited Kabul’s Infectious Diseases Hospital, told Salaam Watandar that they were under serious care of this hospital for the past few days and their condition is improving.
On the other hand, Bakhtar state news agency has reported that only in Shahr Safai district of Zabul province, dozens of people have contracted cholera disease. According to the reports, hundreds of other people in Shahjoy and Daichopan areas of Zabul were also infected with this disease.
Despite this, the officials of the Ministry of Public Health told Salam Watandar that more than 100 people in Kandahar, Helmand and Maidan Wardak provinces have also been infected with suspected cases of “cholera”.
Sharaf Zaman, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health, says that so far nearly 18 people have died due to severe diarrhea or cholera. According to him, the health teams have reached the place and treated the patients of this disease.
According to doctors, cholera is one of the most dangerous diseases caused by drinking unclean water. Symptoms of this disease are severe diarrhea and vomiting.
