Paktika; a province without electricity

SHARANA (SW) – A number of residents of the city of Sharna, the center of Paktika province, have said they have no access to the national power grid whatsoever. 

They add that due to the lack of electricity, business and industry are at stand still and many government offices and hospitals cannot provide services on time, as a result of which people have faced many problems.

Ehsanullah and Samon, two residents of Sharna city, told Salam Watandar that if the electricity problem of this province is solved, the businessmen are ready to establish small and big factories in this province, as a result of which the people will be provided with jobs.

“One of the main problems of the lack of electricity is that no factories have been established here so far. If there was electricity, many residents of Paktika are businessmen and they would invest here.”

He said all businessmen, citizens and people are all facing problems due to the lack of electricity. “Similarly, government offices, hospitals and universities are facing problems due to the lack of electricity.”

Nabi Hamdard, who owns a tea shop in Sharna, said that the city city does not have the electricity and only a private company provides solar electricity, which costs 60 afghanis per unit, which is 9 times more than the price of government electricity.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ayoub, the Paktika Electricity Commissioner, admits that no government electricity has been given to this province so far, and as a result, merchants and people are facing problems.

He added that in one month, they will create a generator electricity system in the city of Sharna, which will provide cheaper electricity to the people and solve their problems to some extent.

According to the officials discussions have been held with the officials of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat to provide electricity to Paktika province and the initial works will begin soon.
