Trucks taking coal to Pakistan damage key highway

KABUL (SW) – Overloaded trucks taking coal to Pakistan are damaging the key Logar – Kabul highway even before it is completed, residents told Salam Watandar.

A number of residents and drivers of Logar province told Salam Watandar that hundreds of trucks loaded with coal are heading to Pakistan that severely damaged the highway.

At present, the part of highway in Pul-e-Alam and Mohammad Agha districts has been damaged at several spots due to heavy traffic and if it is not stopped, the road will be severely damaged even before it is reopened, they said.

Akhtar Mohammad, a driver on the Kabul-Logar highway, said that the number of trucks on the highway has recently increased and about 1,000 coal-loaded trucks pass through Logar to Pakistan in eight hours. .

According to him, the weight of each vehicle is set at 25 to 40 tons, but some drivers do not pay attention to the set weight limit.

“I am a driver,” said Akhtar Mohammad. “The Logar – Kabul road is destroyed by the heavy loads. Passing through, the over-loaded trucks carrying goods to Pakistan have also caused damages in Logar, Paktia and Khost provinces. Our demand is to control the weight of these trucks.”

On the other hand, Noorullah Salam, director of public works in Logar, told Salam Watandar that the weight of trucks going to Pakistan is checked once in Kabul and then in Logar and no one is allowed to carry more than the specified weight.

According to him, there is a problem in loading trucks from Baraki Barak district of Logar to Pul-e-Alam, the provincial capital, and other provinces, which will be resolved soon.

“The Kabul-Logar road has not been destroyed yet and any vehicle transporting coal to Pakistan through this country is weighed once in Kabul and then in Logar province.”, he said.
