“The earthquake is the latest tragedy to befall Afghanistan”

MKNITORING (SW) – Martin Griffiths, the  Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator has said hundreds of people got killed, many more injured, homes destroyed and children buried in the rubble in Afghanistan. 

“The #AfghanistanEarthquake is the latest tragedy to befall the country. I released $10 million from @UNCERF to help with the immediate response”, he tweeted.

Meanwhile, two planes carrying humanitarian aid from Uzbekistan and one from Turkmenistan arrived in Afghanistan yesterday.

National Radio and Television recently reported the shipment of 3,000 tonnes of Indian wheat to Afghanistan.

On the other hand, a number of youth and civil society activists in a number of provinces have launched a campaign to collect donations and donate blood to earthquake survivors and injured.

Earlier, a number of countries and international organizations have announced their humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in the affected provinces.
