10,000 homes destroyed in Paktika, Paktia and Khost

KABUL (SW) – The devastating earthquakes in Paktika, Paktia and Khost have destroyed 10,000 homes, said officials on Sunday.

Ministry of Disasters Management officials said today that the quake in Paktika, Paktia and Khost provinces caused heavy financial losses and casualties. According to officials, 10,000 houses have been destroyed by the earthquake in these provinces.

Ghulam Ghous Naseri, deputy minister, said the latest details of the quake in the southeastern provinces showed tens of millions of dollars in financial losses to residents.

Naseri added that after the earthquake in Paktika, Paktia and Khost provinces, the administration center was established, which includes survey committees, food distribution committees, emergency committees and money distribution monitoring committees.

In the past five days, he said, more than 71.3 million afghanis have been transparently distributed to earthquake victims.

But a number of earthquake victims claim that they have not received any assistance for five days. They complain that humanitarian aid is not being distributed fairly to the victims.

Wazira Khan Bashikhel, one of the injured, said: “But no one has heard from us. There is also a representative of our village distribution committee but help has not come yet.”

“The aid has come, but it is given to those who are relatively well,” said Saleh Mohammad, another victim. “Everyone helps to distribute to their loved ones. There is also intermediation in distribution. So far we have not received a single ounce of flour or a rupee.”

Officials acknowledge problems in the distribution of aid, saying that due to transportation problems, a number of victims have not been able to access humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, Maulvi Ahmad, head of the provincial committee for the distribution of aid to the victims of the Paktika earthquake, said that after this, the process of distributing aid to the victims will be distributed by this committee.

He added that donations from the Islamic Emirate, charities and private organizations are distributed through this committee, but donations from international humanitarian organizations are at the disposal of these institutions themselves.
