Kabul residents says IE failed to ensure electricity supply

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate authorities have failed to ensure security of the power transmission towers, says Kabul residents after long spells of blackouts.

Some residents of Kabul expressed concerns over the power outage in the city and some other provinces, saying that the government has failed to provide security of the power transmission towers.

They say that the government of the Islamic Emirate is not only incapable of protecting the electricity pylons, but also unable to repair the damaged pylons in time.

Wahidullah, a resident of Kabul, told Salam Watandar that the previous government  would have repaired the damaged towers in time and reconnected the disconnected power.

A number of shopkeepers in Kabul said that due to the power outage, many financial losses have been incurred. They said they had no electricity for the past four days and had installed a generator to generate electricity, which was costly.

According to shopkeepers, in the last few days, they have spent all their profits on generator electricity. “If there is no electricity, our biggest problem is the high cost of generators,” said Jamshid Salam, a shopkeeper in Kabul.

Two weeks ago, two electricity pylons were blown up by unknown people in the Taghma area of the southern Salang Pass, cutting off power to Kabul and nine other provinces.

Last night, the power company said in a statement that it had reconnected an 8-megawatt power line to meet the needs of Kabul and several other provinces.

The Islamic Emirate authorities claim to have arrested a number of culprits in connection with the blowing up of the towers.
