Muttaqi meets British envoy in Doha

MONITORING (SW) – The Islamic Emirate’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi has met British Ambassador to Afghanistan Hugo Shorter during an official trip to Doha on Friday.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi wrote on Twitter that the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi had met British Ambassador to Afghanistan Hugo Shorter in Doha, the capital of Qatar and discussed various issues.

Balkhi added that at the beginning of the visit, the British Ambassador condemned the recent incidents in Afghanistan in which civilians were targeted and expressed his condolences to the Afghan people.

The British ambassador said his country’s policy was not to support the insurgency against the new government in Afghanistan and did not consider such measures useful.

During the meeting, the British envoy welcomed the drug banning decree and added that the country is working with the World Bank on a joint initiative to help Afghan farmers create alternative livelihoods.

Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, Amir Khan Muttaqi, emphasized the need for continued relations between the two countries.

He condemned the latest incidents in the country, saying “the latest efforts by the enemy to target civilians are a sign of weakness and hostility towards Afghans.”

A delegation from the Islamic Emirate headed by Hamidullah Akhundzada, acting Minister of Transport and Aviation, has arrived in Qatar to discuss the management of five Afghan airports, the Bakhtar state news agency reported.

Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Kandahar and Khost airports are Afghanistan’s international airports.

Bakhtar reported that Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khairullah Khairkhah, Acting Minister of Information and Culture and Deputy Minister of National Defense, are members of the delegation to Doha.
