Mazar-e-Sharif: Blast in a mosque claims multiple lives

MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW) – Sources in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, have confirmed that at least 30 people were killed and more than 80 were injured following an explosion inside a mosque.

The bomber struck shortly after 12:40 p.m. It is said that this mosque belonged to the Shiite community.

More than 80 injured people have been transferred to Mazar-e-Sharif district hospital as a result of this explosion. Sources also say that the death toll is more than 30 people. According to the sources, the number of dead and wounded is increasing and this is a preliminary figure.

Media reports suggest that the so-called Islamic State (Daesh) has taken responsibility for the attack.
