Lack of liquidity would have catastrophic consequences, warns UN chief

MONITORING (SW) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that Afghanistan’s economic system needs cash as lack of liquidity in Afghanistan’s economic system would have catastrophic consequences for its citizens.

The UN Secretary-General has called on the international community to provide the conditions for injecting cash into Afghanistan’s economic system.

Meanwhile, economic experts confirm the UN warning and say that the country’s economic problems will not be solved if cash is not injected into the Afghan economy.

Abdul Nasir Rashtia, an economist, told Salam Watandar that if the current humanitarian aid to Afghanistan was converted into cash more jobs would be created and the value of the Afghan currency would be preserved.

Taj Mohammad Talash, another political analyst, said that with the management of goods and services by the Islamic Emirate, the country’s economic challenges will be reduced to some extent. According to him, if the current problems in the country continue, there will be long-term risks to the economic situation in Afghanistan.

With the rise to power of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, the economic situation of the country has been severely damaged. The ensuing economic crisis has intensified with the reduction of international aid and the freezing of state assets by the US.

However, the UN Secretary-General has emphasized that the organization has already transferred $ 500 million in cash to Afghanistan.
