Blasts in Kabul, Kunduz cause casualties

KABUL/ KUNDUZ (SW) – Blasts rocked Kabul and Kunduz on Friday causing multiple casualties, confirmed officials.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, announced on Twitter that 33 civilians, including children, had been killed and 43 others wounded in an explosion inside the Mawlawi Sekandar Khaneqa mosque in Kunduz city.

The spokesman for the Islamic Emirate condemned the attack, saying the perpetrators were “seditionists and evil elements.” He stressed that serious efforts are being made to arrest and punish the perpetrators of this incident.

The bomber struck shortly after 2:30 a.m. today as worshipers and students were forming a circle of remembrance after Friday prayers.

Local sources and witnesses to the incident in Kunduz told Salam Watandar that at around 2:30 p.m. today, an explosion took place inside a mosque located in Imam Sahib district of this province.

According to eyewitnesses, more than 30 people have been killed and injured in the incident and taken to the district hospital.

Obaidullah Abedi, spokesman for the Kunduz Police Command, confirmed the explosion in the Imam Sahib district of the province, but he did not elaborate on the casualties or the nature of the blast.

Separately, sources reported an explosion on Darulaman Road in Kabul, near Kefayat Market. According to sources, the explosion occurred in the evening.

Kabul security officials have not yet commented.
