Submission of applications for passports suspended

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate officials have suspended accepting new applications for passports in the provinces to clear the backlog of the pending ones.

The General Directorate of Passports of the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate has instructed the passport administrations in the provinces to stop the process of document processing of new passport applicants.

The General Directorate of Passports has sent a letter to the provincial passport directorates, stating that since the reactivation of the provincial passport directorates, these directorates have processed the documents for too many passports beyond their quota.

The letter, a copy of which was obtained by Salam Watandar, states that the provincial passport administrations, contrary to the guidance of the General Directorate of Passports, processed a large number of applications and documents of the applicants without setting up a joint commission.

According to the letter, signed by Abdul Hakim Hamdi, the newly appointed head of the General Directorate of Passports, the provincial passport administrations are directed to process the documents of the pending passport applicants only.

The new head of the passport has emphasized that the pending applications should be sorted this month.
