Circulation of counterfeit currencies raises concerns in Ghazni

GHAZNI CITY ( SW) – Circulation of counterfeit currencies, especially the US dollar,  in Ghazni markets has raised concerns among money changers, traders and shopkeepers in the province.

A number of money changers and shopkeepers in Ghazni say that they have faced losses several times in the last two months by receiving counterfeit dollars. They called on the officials of the Islamic Emirate to stop the smuggling and entry of counterfeit dollars into the country’s markets.

Mohammad Yasin Taghizada, secretary of the Ghazni Money Changers’ Union, said that many money changers and shopkeepers in the province do not have currency detection machines and that they suffered many times by receiving counterfeit currency.

Assadullah, a money changer who has a small booth in the Ghazni exchange market for selling and exchanging currencies, said that the spread of counterfeit currencies, especially the dollar, has worried him.

The money changers emphasized that the counterfeit dollars are difficult to detect and that the Islamic Emirate must prevent counterfeit currencies from entering the country.

Meanwhile, Syed Ishaq Saleh, spokesman for the Ghazni provincial police command, said that in less than two months, six people had been arrested on charges of importing and promoting counterfeit currencies, especially dollars. He assured the people of Ghazni that they are dealing seriously with counterfeiters.

The use of Pakistani rupees (kaldar) and dollars in Ghazni has been promoted for many years, and the province suffers a lot due to the smuggled goods and goods imported from Pakistan due to its border with Pakistan.
