Amnesty International calls for ‘immediately’ stopping house search in Kabul

MONITORING (SW) – The Amnesty International has urged the Islamic Emirate to ‘immediately’ stop the ongoing house to house search in Kabul.

According to media reports Taliban are breaking into houses, violating individuals’ privacy, destructing and disordering private property and intimidating families, it said.

“This large-scale search across Kabul is beyond any justification and impacts women and girls the most. Reports suggest that house to house searches are mainly conducted by men, with no prior notification to residents”, tweeted the Amnesty International.
It further dubbed it as a violation of human rights norms – in particular, Afghanistan`s international obligations on the right to privacy and non-discrimination.

The intense house-to-house raids and checking by the Islamic Emirate forces in Kabul has caused panic and concerns among the residents.

As of Thursday morning, parts of Kabul, the capital of the country, seems militarized with the forces of the Islamic Emirate conducting house-to-house search.

A number of residents of the capital have complained about the inspection of their homes by the forces of the Islamic Emirate, expressing concern that this has caused fear and anxiety among people and families, especially women and children.

According to them, most of the equipment belonging to the former government has been confiscated by the forces of the Islamic Emirate and those possessing it have been interrogated.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said in a statement on Friday that security forces from the Ministries of Defense, Interior and the Intelligence Department of the Islamic Emirate had launched a large-scale clean-up operation in Kabul and neighboring provinces, led by Deputy Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Fazl Mazlum.

The purpose of the clean-up operation in these areas is said to detain and eliminate those involved in theft, kidnapping, destruction and other crimes who have already been identified by the security forces of the Islamic Emirate, the statement said.
