Islamic Emirate rejects UNSC report on terrorism

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate officials have rejected a recent UNSC report stating that the Taliban has taken no action to restrict the activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

Terrorist groups are reported to have more freedom in Afghanistan than in previous years, and al-Qaeda founder’s son Abdullah recently traveled to the country in October last year to meet with officials from the Islamic Emirate.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate has denied the report, saying the talk about increase in foreign meddling in Afghanistan is untrue. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate has issued a statement saying that such reports, in which there is no evidence, are not in the interest of Afghanistan, the region and the world.

The ministry stressed that the Islamic Emirate has fulfilled its obligations under the Doha Agreement and will not allow anyone to use Afghan territory against other countries, and expects the same from others.

The Foreign Ministry also said that the government of the Islamic Emirate, as a responsible system, will play a positive role in the security and stability of Afghanistan, the region and the world by using the available facilities and opportunities, and hopes that other parties, including the Security Council, understand these facts and make responsible statements.

The analytical report of the UN Security Council’s sanctions monitoring team states that since August 2021, the security landscape in Afghanistan has changed dramatically and there is no sign of measures to curb terrorist activities in the country.

Meanwhile, the report emphasized that the number of forces in the Khorasan branch of ISIL has risen from 2,200 to 4,000 after the release of several thousand prisoners.

A report on the free movement of members of terrorist groups active in Central Asia to Afghanistan said that the Central Asian embassies based in Afghanistan had witnessed the free travel of several leaders of these groups to Kabul.

In the past, the Islamic Emirate has always assured that terrorist groups are prevented from operating in Afghanistan, saying that no group is active in the country.
