KABUL (SW) – Security analysts believe the rampant recruitment in Afghanistan by the armed militant groups pose grim threats to the peace and security of the country.
The Pentagon has recently released a report on the presence of Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. The report states that the Khorasan branch of the Islamic State in Afghanistan is trying to attract people dissatisfied with the Islamic Emirate of the Taliban.
The report says that ISIL and al-Qaeda are still present in Afghanistan and that this is a major threat to the security of Afghanistan and neighboring countries. The Pentagon report, citing ISIS attacks, said the group was trying to recruit dissidents from the Islamic Emirate with an opportunity it has seized since October last year.
However, those familiar with political and international issues see Afghanistan as a breeding ground for armed groups, but they call on the Islamic Emirate to act as soon as possible to prevent such issues from causing more troubles.
Abdul Jabbar Akbari, a political analyst, said armed groups are trying to attract dissidents, but, he said, people are not ideologically aligned with them.
We tried to include the views of the spokespersons of the Islamic Emirate and the Ministry of Interior in the report, but we did not succeed despite repeated calls.
The US Department of Defense has expressed concerns over the presence and activities of ISIS in Afghanistan, while officials from the Islamic Emirate have previously denied the group’s presence in the country and stressed that no armed group will be allowed to carry out subversive activities on Afghan soil.
