Grim grief prevails over Herat following Saturday bombing

HERAT CITY (SW)  – Grim grief and anger prevailed over Herat as mourners laid to rest the bodies of the bombing in thee Haji Abbas area of the city on Saturday.

The funeral prayers for a number of the victims of the bloody explosion in Herat was held here in the “Mosalla and the Grand Mosque of Khatam al-Anbiya” in the town of Jibril in Herat on Sunday.

Relatives of the victims of this incident say that they are witnessing bloody events and the loss of their loved ones every day and they no longer have any hope for the peace of the country.

Ali Bakhsh, a resident of Herat, lost three of his relatives in the blast. He says his aunt and two cousins were killed in the incident, two of whom were the sole breadwinners of their families.

Amir Mohammadi, the driver of the passenger car that was targeted in the blast, is still in shock.

Other eyewitness accounts of this incident also tell bitter stories about the explosion.

Meanwhile, Naeem al-Haq Haqqani, Herat’s director of information and culture, said the incident was caused by a magnetic bomb exploding in the body of a mini-bus, adding that the forces of the Islamic Emirate were investigating the incident.

He assured the residents of Herat, especially the residents of the Hazara community areas of the province, that efforts are being made to ensure their security.

At least seven people got killed and 10 more injured following a blast in a mini-bus carrying passengers in Herat province, confirmed officials on Saturday.

According to reports, this is the first explosion after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan came to power in Herat province.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the blast.
