Kabul dwellers want government to control inflation

KABUL (SW) – Gripped by mounting inflation and price hike, the Kabul residents demand the government to take urgent measures to control the situation.

A number of residents in the capital have complained that food prices have gone up as the dollar has risen against the afghani. According to the capital city dwellers, many citizens are unemployed and unable to afford food, rising food prices are now causing them serious problems.

“The sell and purchase of all goods is happening in dollars,” said Nazar Mohammad, a Kabul resident. “The basic items are sold in dollars, when the dollar went up the rates went up. The prices should be such that people can afford to buy something to solve their problems.”

Residents of Kabul are urging the officials of the Islamic Emirate to manage the current economic crisis by taking action plans and to play their role as the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Bilal Karimi, one of the deputy spokespersons of the Islamic Emirate, told Salam Watandar that the strategy of managing and controlling foodstuff prices has been considered by the responsible institutions, and in case of violation, the sellers will be dealt with legally. He expressed hope that the challenges in this area will be resolved in the coming days.

This is comes as the prices of many basic commodities have moved drastically upward with the surge in value of the USD.
