KABUL (SW) – Women and girls took to the streets in Kabul on Thursday to raise their voice for rights and liberties.
A number of women and civil activists marched in Kabul today in front of the former government’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs to protest against the spread of poverty, economic problems, and for their right to work and education.
They demonstrated under the slogans of work, bread and education and demanded that their rights be respected. Moments after the start of the protest, protesters and journalists who had come to cover the demonstration were met with a response from the forces of the Islamic Emirate, and the march turned violent.
Hojjatullah Mujaddidi, a member of the Commission of Inquiry into Journalists and the Media, said that such treatment of journalists was worrying and that efforts were being made to find a solution to the situation.
In the past, women have repeatedly protested for the right to work and education, but were met with strong opposition.
