Protest against the Taliban’s exclusion of women affairs’ ministry

KABUL( SW) – A number of women’s rights activists took to the streets on Wednesday against the Taliban ignoring women’s affairs ministry while naming new cabinet ministers.

The protesting women said that the removal of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs by the Taliban is unacceptable and should be reconsidered. Zeinab Akhlaqi, a participant in the rally, said: “Yesterday, we saw the Taliban announce their interim government, but unfortunately they did not ensure participation of women. The ministry for women has been removed,” she added. “We have gathered today to show that government in which women do not exist is not acceptable.

The protesting women said that the removal of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs by the Taliban is unacceptable and should be reconsidered.

Meanwhe, Enamullah Samangani, a member of the Cultural Commission of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, clarified that the Ministry has not been removed and that work was underway in this regard.

The interim Taliban cabinet announced last night had women nominated. In the Taliban cabinet, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akharhand was named acting head of the cabinet of Minister.

The UNAMA has expressed concerns over the absence of women in the cabinet, saying peace and stability in Afghanistan had been achieved through the establishment of inclusive governance and the meaningful participation of all.
