GHOR (SW) – Dozens of health workers working at COVID-19 treatment facility in Ghor have lost jobs.
Nourahmad Habibi is one of dozens of physicians treating coronavirus patients at COVID-19 hospital in Firuzkuh, Ghor. However, with the Taliban taking over and the World Bank closing financial spending in this sector, he has lost job.
Noor Ahmad told Salam Watandar that he has not even received his salary for the past two months. “The reasons presented to us by the officials is that they do not have the facilities and the budget. We are unable to manage our finances. I am sure that right now, everyone who suffers from coronavirus, wherever they live must be really worried.”
Mohammad Sharif Qazizada, director of COVID-19 hospital, and Ehsanullah, head of Taliban’s health department in Ghor, said that due to recent developments and lack of funding, more than 70% of the staff in the province, have resigned.
According to him, the non-distribution of food to patients, the non-payment of doctors’ salaries for several months, as well as the lack of oxygen, are among other challenges.
Meanwhile, Sayed Faqir Shah Faqiri, technical director at Health department in Ghor, acknowledged that they had fired a number of staff members due to recent developments. “Because of the recent developments, because the World Bank freezing funds and all the other money and assets related to the project been frozen, we immediately told the team, which was at the district level, to keep the staff at home.”
