49 security forces under the Taliban siege in critical state

HERAT CITY (SW) – Dozens of security forces under the siege of the Taliban in Oba district of Herat province are faced with the eminent threat of death.

The Oba district chief, Zia-ul-Haq Nouri told Salam Watandar at least 49 security personnel had been wounded in Taliban attacks in the district. According to him, a number of these wounded soldiers are dying due to lack of medicine and treatment, and the wounds of a number of them have got infected.



Nouri said that the bodies of the victims of the security forces were transported to Herat by the the ICRC.

“All the security forces are hungry and thirsty,” said Nouri.

The district governor warned that if additional forces do not reach the district, a number of other security forces will have to surrender to the Taliban or die.

Meanwhile, for two days in a row, the families of the wounded and trapped soldiers udner the Taliban siege in Oba have been protesting in front of the Herat governor’s office.

Criticizing the government, especially the security services, they say about 150 soldiers, including dozens of wounded, have been besieged by the Taliban for the past three days in an army camp in Obe district, but the government has taken no action to save the lives.

However, Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the governor of Herat, said the local administration was trying to transport the injured security personnel to a provincial hospital for treatment.
