KABUL (SW) – The death toll from Friday’s bombing in a mosque in Kabul surged to 12, an official confirmed on Saturday.
Ferdaus Faramarz, a spokesman for the Kabul Police Command, said the death toll from Friday’s blast at the Mufti Nauman Grand Mosque in Shakar Dara district had risen to 12. Faramarz added that among those killed in the incident was Mufti Mohammad Numan, the prayers’ leader at the mosque.
According to the spokesman for the Kabul Police Command, 15 people were injured in the blast. He added that the investigation team was busy probing the attack. According to him, the number of casualties in this explosion may rise further considering the critical state of the injured individuals.
The bomb struck during Friday prayers at the mosque in the village of Haji Bakhshi in the Shakar Dara district with no claim of responsibility.

Earlier, Gawhar Khan Babari, the district governor, told Salam Watandar that six people, including Mufti Mohammad Nauman, were killed and more than 20 others were injured in the blast.
This came as the Taliban and the Afghan government had declared a three-day ceasefire during Eid al-Fitr. However, at least 11 civilians were killed and more than 17 were injured in explosions in Kandahar, Kunduz and Ghazni provinces during this period.
