COVID-19: Academic institutions closed for two weeks

KABUL (SW) – As nationwide COVID-19 cases marked a record high, the Ministry of Public Health on Saturday directed all academic institutions to close for two weeks.

Officials have announced that public and private sector universities, schools and other educational centers in 16 provinces of the country will be closed for two weeks from today onwards in order to reduce the spread of the virus.

According to the ministry, this move would be implemented in Kabul, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Panjshir, Balkh, Laghman, Badakhshan, Kapisa, Kunduz and Nimroz provinces.

 


 


The Ministry of Public Health has emphasized the need for people to work together to adhere to the principles of coronavirus prevention, including maintaining social distance, washing hands and wearing masks.

Separately, the National Examinations Committee has announced that the process of university entrance tests in Kabul has been postponed until further notice.

 


 

 


 

On Friday, the MoPH registered 977 cases and 18 deaths from the virus, the highest daily figures so far. With this, the total cases of COVID-19 surged to 70,107 and the death toll rose to 2,899.
