MAIMANA (SW) – The designated Faryab governor Mohammad Dawood on Monday took charge at a military facility as protesters continued protests against him at the governor’s compound in Maimana city.
Narges Momand, a spokeswoman for the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, tweeted that Mohammad Daud Laghmani had been inaugurated as the new governor of Faryab this morning in the presence of Sebghatullah Ghaznavi, deputy director of the department, military and civilian officials and the head of the Faryab provincial council.
Marshal Dostum orders to ‘shoot’
Meanwhile, the Junmbish party leader, Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, has directed his supporters to continue their demonstrations.
Dostum has instructed his supporters to take out “any weapons” they have and to arm themselves and be ready for any situation. While addressing his supporters via mobile phone, Dostum reportedly directed the province’s new governor, Mohammad Daud Laghmani, to be “shot in the forehead”.
Atta Mohammad Faizi, the provincial head of Junbish party in Jawzjan, has said that they have protested for the restoration of their rights. “Mr. Dawood is from Laghman and also has ties to the Taliban, and the government wants to hand over Faryab to the Taliban by sending him”, he charged.
Ehsanullah Qawanch, head of the Junbish Party Youth Council in Faryab, said that the designated governor was going to “trade” Faryab and that they had taken to the streets to block the deal. “We will continue our demonstration, we will not give time to the ‘traders’ and we will close all the government offices,” warned Qawanch.
Gul Mohammad Rasouli, a senator from Faryab, said it was shameful for a governor to be introduced at the army headquarters and not be able to come to the governor’s office.
- Junbish party supporters shut down Faryab governor’s office
- Faryab’s nomads left clueless about Covid-19
The protesters demanded the new governor should be a person with knowledge of the area and ability to ensure peace and order here.
Dozens of Junbish-e-Islami supporters on Saturday closed down the provincial administration’s compound in Faryab against the appointment of the new governor.
A member of the Junbish party told Salam Watandar the party opposed the appointment of the new governor Mohammad Dawood and stand by Marshal Abdul Rasheed Dostum’s call for appointment of the governor by the people.
Dawood has been appointed by the Independent Directorate of Lcoal Governance to replace former Faryab governor Naqibullah Fayeq who was later nominated by the president as senator.
