PUL-E-KHUMRI (SW) – Chief of the special police unit in Baghlan has been killed by the Taliban in an ambush, said officials.
Baghlan police spokesman Ahmad Javed Besharat said that Sharifullah Khosti was killed last night, Thursday, in a clash with the Taliban in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province.
According to him, the Taliban also suffered casualties in the clash.
Meanwhile, credible security sources in Baghlan told Salam Watandar that nine government forces had been wounded as a result of Taliban attacks on a convoy of security forces in the second police district of Pul-e-Khumri. According to these sources, three tanks of these forces were also destroyed in this incident.
Sources say that Sharifullah Khosti, the commander of a special police unit in Baghlan province, was killed in a Taliban ambush while he was assisting the forces. The Supreme Council of National Reconciliation has condemned the incident.
Sharifullah Khosti was appointed commander of the Baghlan police special unit two years ago. He was wounded several times by Taliban ambushes and landmines.
He got killed days after Gen. Yasin Zia, the acting defense minister, visited the province and said there were no security concerns in Baghlan.
