KABUL (SW) – At least 408 prominent members of the so-called Islamic State (Daesh) terrorist group from 14 countries have been arrested, the NDS chief announced on Tuesday.
Ahmad Zia Siraj, head of the NDS, said up to 299 of these terrorists were Pakistani citizens, who make up 60% of Daesh detainees. He told a news conference in Kabul that a number of women and 173 children were among these detainees.
The director general of the national directorate of security said that Daesh still posed a grim threat to Afghanistan. He added that although the group operates in small urban groups; but if the countries of the region do not cooperate to manage, it will be revived and turn into a regional threat.
According to the NDS chief the Daesh detainees are citizens of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, China, Turkey, Jordan, Iran, Indonesia, Algeria, India, Bangladesh and the Maldives.
