Proposed plan by Khalilzad to expedite peace talks

KABUL (SW) – Hamdullah Moheb, National Security Advisor, on Sunday said a draft for inclusive government floated by the US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has been shared with the Afghan government.

According to the National Security Advisor, the plan is structured to accelerate the intra-Afghan talks in Doha. Moheb added that the distribution of power has also been discussed in the plan proposed by the US envoy. He said that in order to end the war in the country, there is a need to negotiate and reach an agreement with the Taliban, and a political agreement with Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Massoud Andarabi, the interior minister, said the Taliban had been defeated on the battlefield and that the group was looking for ways to soften the war and carry out targeted killings. The interior minister added that although the Taliban had no success on the battlefield last year, and would continue to fight in the coming years.

The security officials insisted that they are hoping for peace talks to reach the desired outcome, however, they are prepared for war as well.
