Ali Pur enters a deal with Taliban in Bamyan

BAMYAN (SW) – The governor of Bamyan Sayed Anwar Rahmati has expressed concerns about a local armed commander Ali Pur entering a deal with the Taliban.

The governor of Bamyan expressed these views at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the destruction of Buddha statues. “There are reports and rumors that Ali Pur has reached an agreement with the Taliban, I hope this is not true,” he said.

According to governor Rahmati, Ali Pur moved a number of his gunmen to the village of Ab-e Noqra, near the Hajigak Pass. “Efforts are underway through the elders of Kalo area of Shibar district of Bamyan to ask Ali Pur to move back his gunmen, however, he has not yet responded positively to the efforts of local elders.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Hussein Tavana, a spokesman for Ali Pur, the local commander, accused the Bamyan governor of conspiring against him. He said there was no understanding between Ali Pur and the Taliban.

According to him, the ‘Resistance Front’ under Ali Pur is not a threat to Bamyan, rather, this front works alongside the people to ensure the security of transportation routes and against the Taliban.
