327 Afghans renounce citizenship for foreign nationalities

 

KABUL (SW) – Upon obtaining foreign nationalities, at least 327 Afghans have renounced their citizenships in the past year, said justice minister Fazal Ahmad Manawi.

During the ongoing accountability drive press conferences, Manawai said these Afghans applied for citizenships in various European and Asian countries. He said as many 13 nationals from South Korea, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Yemen applied for Afghan citizenship.

The Minister of Justice said the number of judicial cases registered in the last one year was higher than the previous year. Last year 77,000 legal cases have been registered, of which 16,000 are family cases, accounting for 21 percent of all cases.

Manawi added that the Ministry of Justice is in charge of the Anti-Human Trafficking Commission, which has identified 34 human trafficking networks in different provinces in collaboration with the commission’s security, justice and human rights groups. He added 60 smugglers have been taken into custody.

Separately, the National Bureau of Statistics and Information also released its annual report in the ongoing accountability drive press conferences.

Ahmad Javed Rasooli, director of the agency, said the distribution of electronic ID cards has increased. Rasooli said more than one million electronic IDs have been distributed in the current fiscal year and that the capacity to distribute electronic IDs has now reached 20,000 a day through 70 centers inside and outside the country.
