KABUL (SW) – Interior ministry on Sunday confirmed the spokesman for the Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF) was among three people killed in a landmine blast in Kabul.

It said in a statement that Zia Wadan was on his way to office when a sticky bomb attached to his car exploded.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Blaming the Taliban for the attack, interior ministry said in a statement that a number of insurgents involved in a string of identical targeted assassinations and bomb blasts have been arrested who have confessed of their crimes.

Condemning the attack, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said in a statement that the ‘increase in violence by the Taliban reveals the insurgents are bent upon violence and destruction contrary to any commitments to peace’.

The Taliban are yet to comment.
