4 arrested in connection with killing of Kohistani

KAPISA (SW) – At least four suspects in connection with the killing of female rights activists Fereshta Kohistani have been arrested in Kapisa province.

A security source in Kapisa, who did not want to be named, said a joint operation by the security and defense forces has led to the arrest of these suspects in connection with the killing of Fereshta Kohistani and her brother. According to the source, the operation took place in the Deh Nau area of ​​the first part of Kohistan district of Kapisa on Saturday afternoon.

The Interior Ministry has also announced that it had arrested seven people in connection with the killing of Kohistani and her brother.

Fereshta Kohistani, a women’s rights and civil society activist, was killed along with her brother in the Deh Nau area of ​​the first part of Kohistan district on Thursday by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday directed authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators behind the recent terrorist attacks on civilians as well as political and social activists.

According to a statement issued by the presidency, he issued stern directives and guidance to the security and defense institutions in order to provide the best possible security to these activists.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the killing of Kohistani and her brother.
