Military veterans with disabilities feel neglected

KABUL (SW) – A number of military veterans with disabilities complain of being neglected in the peace process.

In connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a number of former service members criticized the government. They said that they are facing many problems and the government does not pay attention to them.

At a press conference, they said that although they have lost limbs to protect the country and the people, they have been ignored in the peace process that determines the fate of Afghanistan.

Javad Mahmoudi and Ismail Siddiqui, two such former service members with disabilities, said that the main victims of the war are the families of the service members, but they have been ignored in the peace talks.

These invalids called on the government to pay attention to them in terms of treatment, livelihoods, job opportunities, and land distribution.

According to Haroon Haidari, head of the Afghan Heroes, a local charity aimed to support such individuals, the outbreak of the coronavirus has caused additional challenges for these disabled persons.

Despite repeated contacts, we could not get the views of the Ministry of Martyrs and the Disabled Affairs in this connection.
