Mini-truck bombing destroys schools in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (SW) – A mini-truck bombing in a remote part of Kandahar’s Maiwand district has damaged two public schools, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the provincial directorate of education, a team visited the site of the attack and brought back a detailed report about the damage. Spokesman for the directorate of education, Nazar Mohammad Samimi said the incident took place two days ago near the police headquarters in Maiwand.

The mini-truck bombing killed four people and injured 40 others.

According to Samimi the Malala Maiwandi and Ghazi Ayub Khan schools have been devastated by the heavy blast. A total of 18 schools are functioning in Kandahar’s Maiwand district where some 4300 boys and girls are enrolled.

Located on the main Kandahar – Herat highway, the Maiwand district of Kandahar has witnessed a surge in violent clashes between the security forces and the Taliban.
