KUNDUZ/ MAIMANA (SW) – At least 12 security forces and five civilians got killed in back-to-back two car bombings in northern Kunduz and Faryab provinces, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Mohammad Yousuf Ayubi, chairman provincial council Kunduz, told Salam Watandar the insurgents attacked the security forces in Khan Aabad district on Monday evening leaving eight members of the elite army unit killed and injuring three others. He added the check post fell to the insurgents after hours of fighting.
The provincial council chairman added that the aerial bombing followed the ground engagement leaving five civilians and six Taliban killed.
Meanwhile, Hadi Jamal, the spokesman for 217 – Pamir Corp of the Afghan National Army, only confirmed the attack and killing of ‘scores of insurgents’.
On the other end, Esmatullah Murady, spokesman for the provincial governor, acknowledged five civilians lost their lives as insurgents flew to take refuge in a civilian guest house.
Elsewhere, Taliban insurgents hit a security check post in Faryab’s Almaar district with a car bomb leaving four security forces killed and five others injured. Abdul Kareem Yourish, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, said the bombing also left ten civilians killed and wounded.
The heavy blast has also destroyed the district police headquarters.
