MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations has reported that only 26 countries worldwide are currently led by women, while 113 countries have no female leadership at all.

In a statement posted on its X account, the UN highlighted that women’s presence in executive decision-making roles globally remains minimal, and achieving gender equality in political life remains a distant goal.

The UN further stated that as of January 2024, women hold only 23% of ministerial positions, a slight increase of less than 0.5% from 2023.

According to UN statistics, in 141 countries, women make up less than one-third of cabinet ministers, and seven countries have no women in their cabinets.

The report also noted that women are more frequently found in roles related to family, children, and social affairs, whereas men predominantly occupy positions in the fields of economy, defense, justice, and internal affairs.
