TEHRAN, IRAN (SW) – Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced his candidacy for the upcoming 14th presidential election in Iran, according to Iranian media reports.
The Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) reported that Ahmadinejad registered his candidacy at the Ministry of Interior’s election headquarters.
Ahmadinejad emphasized that his main goals and agenda would focus on addressing the economic challenges facing the citizens by improving the economic situation, enhancing the business environment, and ending monopolies.
Ahmadinejad stated that he aims to usher in a new and prosperous era based on wisdom, unity, cooperation, and renewed efforts for Iran’s construction and progress.
He remarked, “Observing the economic and living conditions of the vast majority of people, which has penetrated deep into their bones and endangered the dignity, security, and honor of millions, is intolerable for any responsible person.”
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013.
The registration process for presidential candidates began four days ago and will conclude Monday, June 3.
The early presidential election in Iran is scheduled for June 28th, following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
