India’s Assam scraps colonial-era Muslim marriage law

MONITORING (SW) – India’s Assam state has scrapped an 89-year-old law that allowed marriage involving underage Muslims, against opposition from leaders of the minority community who called the plan an attempt to polarise voters on religious lines ahead of elections.

Herat earthquake survivors demand IE, aid agencies for urgent reconstruction efforts

HERAT CITY (SW) – A number of earthquake victims in Herat province complain about the negligence of the de-facto government and aid agencies in the reconstruction of houses and provision the educational and medical facilities. They say that more than five months have passed since the deadly earthquake in Herat, but they are still living under tents and are deprived of other life facilities.

Amir Khan Muttaqi leaves for Turkmenistan

KABUL (SW) – Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, has left for Turkmenistan as the head of a delegation to discuss various bilateral issues between Kabul and Ashgabat.
