UNAMA renews call for women’s rights with a new strategy

KABUL (SW) – The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has presented its new two-year strategy for Afghanistan, based on which the United Nations will continue its activities in Afghanistan for the next two years.

Based on this strategy, UNAMA prioritizes the provision of humanitarian assistance and support for human rights in Afghanistan, and also in this strategy, addressing the situation and problems of vulnerable groups such as women, children, displaced persons and ethnic minorities is placed as a basic priority.

The caretaker government of the Islamic Emirate, while welcoming the humanitarian activities of the United Nations, emphasized that these activities should not be provided with conditions. The caretaker government has urged the United Nations to focus more on the development sector in its humanitarian activities.

Bilal Karimi, one of the deputy spokespersons of the Islamic Emirate, said in this regard: “Considering respect for Afghanistan’s internal issues, the UN should make their activities consistent. The Islamic Emirate will continue its cooperation.”

A number of political experts criticize the lack of focus of the United Nations to find a solution for Afghanistan to overcome its current challenges. According to them, the United Nations and its representation in Afghanistan have not been able to play their role in solving the political problems of this country properly in the last two years.

Abdul Jabbar Akbari, an expert on political issues, said: “UNAMA, which is the political representative of the United Nations, is present and active in Kabul. This institution has not yet used political logic to sit down with the Islamic Emirate officials and turn the points of disagreement into points of commonality and find out where the main problem is.”
