MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW) – A number of disabled people in Balkh province have demanded resumption of activities of the Swedish Committee in Afghanistan.
A meeting was held in this regard, which asked the government to review the decision to suspend the activities of the Swedish Committee in Afghanistan.
One of the participants of the meeting, Syed Mohammad Yazdanparast, expressed concern about the delay in the activities of the Swedish committee in Afghanistan and said that the activities of the said committee should be resumed as soon as possible. He told Salam Watandar that due to the delay in the activities of the Swedish Committee, disabled people have been deprived of health, work and educational opportunities.
Abdul Rahim Safa, the person in charge of the blind community in Balkh, said that the caretaker government of Islamic Emirate does not have alternative services for the activities of the Swedish committee, and according to him, the activities of the said committee should be resumed. Abdul Basit, another disabled person, also requested the resumption of activities of the Swedish Committee in Afghanistan and said: “A Swedish crime should not affect the services of this organization.”
In response to the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by an Iraqi refugee in Sweden on Tuesday, the caretaker government of Afghanistan has suspended all activities of the Swedish Committee and related institutions in Afghanistan.
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan is the largest organization in the country that has been providing health, local government and disabled people services in 19 provinces of the country for the past 40 years.
