KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat, the power utility, say that they have collected more than 33 billion afghanis in electricity bills during the past year, of which, according to them, 118 million afghanis were collected from the powerful and politicians of the previous government.
Officials of DABS today said this while presenting their annual report in the program “Government Accountability to the Nation” on Tuesday. They said that the cases of those powerful people of the previous government who are still in debt from this company have been sent to the court for a decision.
Abdulrahman Rahmani, the commercial director of DABS, said that these people owe more than 500 million Afghanis for electricity bills. He added: “Until now, 33 billion and 187 million afghanis have been collected from electricity subscribers and 118 million afghanis from the powerful and politicians of the previous government, and 432 million afghanis from politicians and 77 million afghanis from the powerful are remaining that we are trying to collect.”
Hekmatullah Meyvandi, the spokesperson of DABS, said that in order to supply electricity to industrial parks, they have considered an independent power line with a high capacity.
He added: “We have provided an independent power line for industrial parks in Kabul and Nangarhar, with the help of Afghan engineers, and we have also increased its capacity.”
The DABS officials said that the shortages and lack of electricity have increased due to heat and drought, but according to them, they are trying to solve this problem.
