Zabul farmers optimistic about the almonds’ yields

QALAT (SW) – A number of gardeners in Zabul say that the almond crops in their orchards have flourished and they hope that their yields will be much better this year than last year.

According to them, due to the absence of pests and heavy rains, there is a possibility of a six-fold increase in almond production this year.

Seyed Mohammad, a gardener in Zabul, says that last year, his almond crops were destroyed due to the cold, but this year, one almond tree has produced as much as four to five trees. “Last year, the yield of my whole garden was just 43 almonds. This year, it will yield more than three harvests.”

Esmatullah, another gardener in Zabul, said that this year, due to the good weather, the almond crops in his garden have pproduced better results. “The weather was very good. This year, almond trees will yield more than any other year.”

On the other hand, Attaullah Rashid, director at the department of agriculture, irrigation and livestock of Zabul, told Salam Watandar that according to a survey conducted, the almond yields will increase by about 15% compared to last year.

There are 3,200 hectares of almond orchards in Zabul, and almond seedlings have been planted on 1,300 hectares of land with the cooperation of some institutions. According to him, this year the weather of Zabul is suitable for planting almond crops.

Meanwhile, the residents of other southern provinces complain about the lack of water for agriculture and say that many of their crops have dried up due to the lack of water.
