LASHKARGAH (SW) – The local Sabawoon TV in Helmand has resumed operations after a two-year hiatus following the establishment of the Islamic Emriate in Afghanistan.
Nabi Akmal, the broadcast manager of Sabawoon TV, has said that economic problems and the past wars had suspended the activities for the past two years. He said: “From now on, only six hours of broadcasts are planned, which will include various programs, such as health, political and social affairs programs.”
After the fall of the republic, at least 4 audio and three TV stations in Helmand suspended their activities, due to which around 90 journalists and media workers become unemployed in this province.
A number of journalists in Helmand said they are happy with the reactivation of Sabawoon TV. Hamdullah Hamdard, a journalist in Helmand, told Salam Watandar: “The last two years have not been good years for journalists in Afghanistan because many journalists have become unemployed.”
Officials of the department of information and culture have also welcomed the reactivation of Sabawoon TV.
Mohammad Qasim Riaz, deputy director of the department said: “Sabawoon TV has resumed its activities after some delay. This is a good move. We welcome it, the media is the voice of the people and it is a bridge between the people and the government.”
