KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid has warned that at least $479 million is needed to provide clean drinking water to 14 million people in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid has said that Afghanistan has been severely affected by three consecutive droughts.
“Three successive droughts have hit #Afg. hard. 2022 drought saw a 7% spike in families expressing increased need for drinking water; a 12% in families facing barriers to accessing safe water. $479M is needed to improve access to safer water & to prevent disease for 14M pple”, it tweeted.
Drought in Afghanistan, along with political and economic crises, has worsened the situation for millions of people. This summer, a number of provinces were facing a severe shortage of drinking water.
