3000 lives lost to cancer in a year

KABUL (SW) – In connection with the World Cancer Day, officials at the Ministry of Public Health have expressed concerns about the increase in the number of cancer patients in the country.

According to the officials, around 3000 people died due to cancer throughout the country last year.

As per the statistics by the Ministry of Public Health, more than three thousand citizens were diagnosed with cancer last year. Referring to the lack of good treatment facilities in the country, Sharaft Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesperson of the ministry, told Salam Watandar that a special hospital for cancer treatment is going to be built soon.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health said: “In 2022, more than 3,300 people with cancer have been registered in the country, and another 3,000 people have died in the country. The Ministry of Public Health is trying to build a special cancer treatment hospital in the country.”

Khan Mohammad, one of the cancer patients who is admitted to Jamhuriat Hospital in Kabul, said: “When I was examined, the doctors said that I have cancer. I have not eaten since properly, and I miss it. I came to the hospital and am under treatment.”

Gul Hossein, another cancer patient who is hospitalized in the hospital, said: “I have skin cancer, it was diagnosed and treated in Iran, and after I returned to Afghanistan, it spread again. . I have come to the Hospital, this is the second time they have administered the anti-cancer vaccine.”

Doctors consider the use of tobacco, lack of access to healthy food and air pollution as the main causes of cancer.

Sara Sakhizada, a doctor at the hospital, said: “The way to prevent this is for patients not to use tobacco, avoid the sun’s rays, eat healthy food, and exercise.”

According to the information, now only three cancer diagnosis and treatment centers are operating in Kabul, Kandahar and Herat.
