KABUL (SW) – Amid renewed media focus on the TAPI gas pipeline project, the Islamic Emirate has announced that it is ready to establish a special security force to safeguard this project.

Office of the deputy prime minister of the Islamic Emirate has said that TAPI is an important economic project in the region and the ground for its implementation has been paved by providing security.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Habib, the spokesman of the Ministry of Economy, told Salam Watandar that with the implementation of the TAPI project, which will run 816 km in Afghanistan, the national income and job opportunities will increase significantly.

“The gas transmission line of this project is about 816 kilometers through the territory of Afghanistan. If this project is implemented and operated, it will provide employment for more than 10,000 citizens of the country. Annually, about 400 to 500 million dollars will be earned for the tolls and transit to the national revenues”.

On the other hand, Shamshad Aziz Kazemi, a researcher of strategic studies and national security, said that the ground for implementing the TAPI project has been prepared and this project can bring about regional convergence.

“With the re-emergence of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, the countries of the region think that the Islamic Emirate can provide security for the TAPI project. This project can curb tensions between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In my opinion, the common interests of the countries in this project will create security and regional integration.”

In addition to this, Taj Mohammad Tashah, expert on economic issues, referring to the preparation of the ground for the implementation of this project, said that with its implementation, Afghanistan can also have a tool of pressure against Pakistan.

“I think that the chances of implementing this project have improved with ensuring national security, the absence of financial corruption and the end of the bureaucratic system. Afghanistan’s trade balance shows that we are dependent on Pakistan, and this project could have been a pressure point against that country’s violations.”

However, Mohammad Hassan Faqiri, a professor of international relations, said that the implementation of the TAPI project can bring a lot of change in Afghanistan’s economic situation.

“The TAPI project was proposed even before the republic era and in the early 1990s with the independence of Central Asian countries. The Tapi project is a very important project for the people of Afghanistan. Naturally, the transfer of such energy through Afghanistan will have a great impact on the economic situation of this country.”

It should be mentioned that previously, the implementation of the TAPI project as a large regional project was delayed due to security threats, but recently, the countries involved in this project have shown interest in starting its work.
