“Most of the displaced population in Afghanistan are women”

KABUL (SW) – Most of the displaced population in Afghanistan are women, said the United Nations Organization for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women, also known as United Nations Women.

It has said that the displaced women in temporary settlements are facing increasing risks. The UN Women noted in a tweet that six million people in Afghanistan are one step away from famine, and in such a crisis, Afghan women and girls are the most deprived and have less access to services.

“When women and girls face direct barriers to their right to movement and work, they are the last to have access to food, water, safe shelter and health care.”

According to this organization, besides the restrictions, the norms that other family members expect from women is that they make sacrifices, which means that women eat the least.

This organization added that women in Afghanistan are forced to sell their assets to buy food and in extreme cases, families are forced to sell their daughters for marriage.

The United Nations Women has emphasized that the restriction on the basic rights of women with a low literacy rate has caused most women to not have an identity card, and this prevents them from accessing vital services, including humanitarian aid.

According to reports, more than half of Afghanistan’s population needs help right now.
